My experience as an Instructional Designer, using computers was an integral part of designing curriculum to fit the needs of students and educators. In education, computers serve as information providers, facilitate interactive learning experiences, enable personalized learning through adaptive software, and provide platforms for online and distance learning.
Instructional design is the process of developing effective
and efficient instructional materials and activities based on learning and
instructional theory. With the use of technology, instructional design has
become an essential component of education.
Instructional designers use computer-based technologies;
therefore, they need to be computer-literate to use the technologies and
platforms they use to create educational content. Additionally, there is now a
focus on learner-centered design, which considers factors such as individual
learning styles, preferences, and performance data of employees to create
personalized learning experiences. This shift ensures that individuals not only
acquire knowledge but also apply it in real-world situations.
Instructional designers will face new and emerging
technologies such as Artificial Intelligence. AI is changing the way we
approach learning design, and with that, the role of instructional designers is
evolving into something much more dynamic, strategic, and essential.
